AltaLink is looking to hire a Senior Corporate Counsel. This individual will work in a challenging environment and will play a key role in providing legal and business advice on key decisions that will take into consideration and impact the company’s strategic objectives.
Reporting to the SVP, Law & Regulatory, General Counsel, you will support the organization on a full range of day-to-day legal responsibilities. You will also draft and review a wide range of agreements. Working closely with senior management, you will also provide legal advice on various matters.
Advice on a range of commercial matters including engineering and construction, procurement, complex commercial contracts, joint ventures, partnerships and corporate work.
Advise, draft and negotiate commercial agreements and other contractual arrangements, either alone or as part of a team.
Advise clients of the legal and business implications of proposed transactions, anticipating legal and contractual concerns and devising strategies to resolve them.
Liaise with lawyers in the department to ensure a coordinated input of legal advice to the client.
Work closely with other specialists e.g. regulatory, project management, engineering, land, tax, corporate finance and treasury to ensure that an excellent level of service is provided to clients.
Protect the company interests by ensuring all necessary checks and investigations are undertaken (e.g. undertaking all necessary due diligence/disclosure exercises as appropriate).
A license to practice law in Alberta.
A university degree (LLB;JD) in law and member of a provincial or state bar.
Minimum of 5 years of corporate/commercial legal experience.
A thorough grounding and experience in the areas described above.
