SALARY for this position is $76000 to $101000 per year
An opening exists for HVDC Technologists at Langdon Alberta and Genesee Alberta reporting to the Manager, HVDC Operations in the Asset Management department. The Technologists will be part of a cross functional team working with the WATL project team to provide support in the delivery of the project and will be responsible for the ongoing operation and maintenance of the HVDC converter station component of the Western Alberta Transmission Line (WATL) HVDC system for AltaLink.
Work schedule is 40 hours (8hoursx5days).
In support of the delivery and integration of the Western Alberta Transmission Line project:
Review preliminary and final design documentation
Participate in the setup and execution of the HVDC factory acceptance testing
Participate in the HVDC converter station construction and commissioning activities
Develop maintenance work method manuals and troubleshooting procedures for the HVDC converter station
Ongoing operation and maintenance of the HVDC system:
Perform ongoing routine maintenance and troubleshooting on the following equipment/systems:
-Primary Equipment – transformers, breakers, filters, valves, etc.
-Protection and Control Systems – relays, PLC’s, SCADA, HMI’s, etc.
-Auxiliary Systems – motor controls, switch gear, valve cooling system, auxiliary power, etc.
Perform equipment inspections, condition monitoring, and provide input for improvements/replacements
Perform or assist in root cause and failure mode investigations on abnormal equipment operations or failures
Update and maintain the documentation for safety practices, work methods, training manuals, troubleshooting procedures, and emergency restoration plans
Supporting the development of equipment maintenance and lifecycle plans as required, as well as trouble response and emergency restoration plans and procedures
Perform on-call duties and respond to trouble at the HVDC converter stations
Coordinate with ACC as required to perform maintenance activities, as well as emergency activities
Coordinate onsite contractor work
Electrical or Instrumentation Technologist Diploma with a minimum of 7+ years of electric utility or industrial plant experience
Experience in the installation, testing, and maintenance of P&C and SCADA systems
Experience in the installation, testing, and maintenance of PLC systems
Experience in the installation, testing, and maintenance of substation equipment
Strong trouble shooting capabilities
Experience in the installation, testing, and maintenance of HVDC or FACTS
Experience in the installation, testing, and maintenance of plant auxiliary systems would be an asset
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to write reports, manuals, and procedures
Ability to work in a team environment
Flexible with the ability to positively influence others, and develop strong internal and external relationships
Self-driven with demonstrated initiative to create work projects
A strong desire to learn
Proven track record of attendance and performance
