We currently have a need in our Transmission Field Operations team for a Crane and Equipment Operator on the North Transmission Crew located in Acheson. Under the supervision of the Transmission Crew Manager and direction of the Foreman, the Crane and Equipment Operator is required to function as a integral part of the crew operating trucks, cranes, radial diggers and be responsible for the transportation of transmission equipment and material for the crew.
This position is stationed out of our Acheson office just outside of Edmonton, and will cover the entire Northern region of Alberta.
Transport equipment and material using a truck or tractor trailer unit, experience with oversize loads preferred.
Operate mobile cranes 17-50 tons and radial diggers near various energized high voltage lines up to 500 kV.
Provide support and assistance to the transmission linemen with work on the ground when required.
Ability to operate various heavy and tracked construction equipment and all terrain equipment as required.
Instruct and train inexperienced personnel in the safe operation of trucks, equipment and the transportation of loads.
Maintain personal and group safety at all times, and exercise appropriate caution when working close to energized equipment.
Willing to work away from home for short to extended periods of time (work week consists of 4, 10-hour days, and crew is away for 60-100 nights per year).
Respond to unscheduled outages as the result of weather and component failures.
Be a positive team member through open communication and active participation in crew tasks.
Maintain good public relations with persons inside and outside the company.
Minimum grade 12 Diploma.
Class 1 with air endorsement.
Good driving record. Drivers abstract to be provided upon interview.
Alberta Journeyman Crane Operator or willing to obtain certification (see note below)
Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
Experience operating Cranes or radial diggers.
A demonstrated team player with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Capable of working independently and in a team environment.
Good physical condition and manual dexterity, capable of passing the physical fitness and medical requirements.
Capable of lifting objects greater than 25 Kg's.
Physically capable of working in adverse/inclement weather conditions.
Must live within 45 minutes of the office, in order to respond to emergency call outs.
Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
Knowledge of safety practices, procedures, and standards required in line construction would be an asset.
Experience in Transmission Line construction would be an asset.
Certified in TDG, WHMIS, and First Aid would be an asset.
A successful candidate without an Alberta Journeyman Crane Certification would be given a leave of absence without pay to attend the 5 week apprenticeship program. Continued employment is subject to successful completion within 6 months of hire. AltaLink will pay the tuition upon successful completion.
