An opening exists within AltaLink for a Senior Right of Way Maintenance Engineer, reporting to the Manager, Right of Way Management and Field Analysis (RW/FA) The role is accountable to provide engineering decision making and support of risk assessments critical in the operational management of transmission lines and associated right-of-ways, including vegetation management The role works closely with the vegetation management team (VMC & VMS), Right of Way Construction team (RCC), Transmission Maintenance Field Operations (TLS, TFS & STS), and Transmission Field Crews ensuring the operating Integrated Vegetation Management/Right of Way (IVM/RoW) maintenance and capital replacement programs are effectively planned and prioritized. The position is ideally suited for a generalist, well-versed in right-of-way and transmission lines management and maintainability. The candidate will also able to analyze the data collected, make recommendations based on the findings and lead change to ensure desired results are achieved. The position also plays a critical interface and mentorship role between the field, planning, and asset engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for engineering input and support for the delivery/execution of the RW/FA team’s execution of lines operational maintenance, including trouble response and urgent repairs.
  • Review and analysis of IVM/RoW maintenance queue levels and provide recommendations to address and monitor, if necessary.
  • Review and analyze whether AltaLink is currently achieving its current IVM/RoW maintenance standards and practices; help assess impact of the above of the performance of AltaLink’s assets; make recommendations for improvement.
  • Review and, as necessary, improve the RW/FA maintenance prioritization practices, guidelines and standards.
  • Provide input into data, systems and tools used by RW/FA team to analyze, prioritize, and report on maintenance.
  • Develop or recommend new and improved metrics and data analysis related to RW/FA maintenance execution to support data-driven decision-making and actions. Identify gaps in data and quality. Identify enhancements and additions to current scorecards.
  • Provide input into forecasts and regulatory applications with respect to RW/FA maintenance resource requirements.
  • Support forecasting and gap analysis on the impact of new regulatory requirements affecting IVM/RoW maintenance.
  • Lead and support cross-functional initiatives that help Asset Management achieve its corporate objectives and annual goals.
  • Participate and seek out technical forums and cross-utility opportunities to gather utility best practices relating to IVM/RoW Management risk and resource management (such as NATF, CEA or CEATI).

  • Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer in good standing with APEGA or other provincial engineering association.
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience.
  • Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
  • Proven leadership skills within cross-functional teams and leading change and improvements to the maintenance, inspection or engineering processes.
  • Strong analytical skills to to evaluate current and future processes, practices and technologies to improve results.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills in new and ambiguous situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex issues to various levels of the organization.
  • Experience and confidence to lead and facilitate conversations with internal and external customers and key partners.
  • Proven ability to be builds strong relationships.
  • Experience in a regulated environment would be beneficial.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic changing environment with multiple, conflicting, priorities.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards such as CSA, IEC, IEEE, ANSI standards and functional specifications.
